The Southampton Hospital Foundation has released the final numbers from their Gran Fondo bike ride fundraiser.

Their goal was to raise $150,000 to put towards a new MRI machine for the Owen Sound hospital.

They raised just under $139,000, which executive coordinator, Sally Kidson, says is still remarkable considering this is their first time doing this event.

The Gran Fondo is becoming an annual event, with the next bike ride scheduled for August of 2019.

A survey of the participants revealed 95% or riders were satisfied with the event and would recommend it to a friend.

The foundation says that the event also boosted the local economy since many riders were from out of town and stayed multiple nights in hotels and visited local shops and restaurants.

They will be hosting a donor/volunteer open house for their 20th anniversary on November 5th.
