FANSHAWE COLLEGE POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR WEIGHS IN ON DOUG FORD WIN
3/13/2018 5:14:51 PM

Former Toronto Councilor Doug Ford is the newly elected Progressive Conservative leader following a delayed voting process over the weekend.

Ford beat out three other competitors: Caroline Mulroney, Christine Elliott, and Tanya Granic Allen.

Political Science Professor at Fanshawe College Matt Farrell says he wasn't surprised with the Ford victory.

Farrell says that polling suggests that voters are looking for a change and anyone but the current government would do.

He adds that Ford is a unique position as he can reach out to different types of Conservative around the province which has been a struggle for the party.

Farrell says Ford does well in Toronto and the 905 belt, but also has support in the rural areas, and it appears that social Conservatives are also happy with him as well.
