11/14/2017 6:10:03 AM

A crime of opportunity took place this weekend, and police are still searching for the culprit.

In Saugeen Shores, there was a power outage that affected the downtown core after a tree fell on electrical lines in the area of Goderich and River Streets.

During the power outage, somebody smashed out the front window of Elgin Jewellers and stole a number of items from the front display. They didn't enter the store but may have left some DNA evidence behind that was obtained by Saugeen Shores police.

Police say they continue to work with the store's owner to obtain a complete list of stolen items.

Saugeen Shores Police would like anyone with information about this to contact them as soon as possible.
