Police have made an arrest in an arson and vandalism case in the town of Saugeen Shores.

The incident happened shortly after 2am Thursday at a home on Winchfield Road in Southampton. Police say the homeowner was sleeping when she awoke to find the shed engulfed in flames. The woman went outside to find that her house and her vehicle had also been damaged.

Vulgar graffiti was on all four sides of the main house. The vehicle was spray-painted and scratched, and foam insulation had been sprayed into the gas tank.

The shed and its contents were completely destroyed.

A 24-year-old Sarnia man was identified later in the day and taken into custody. He is charged with criminal harassment, arson, mischief over $5000, trespass by night, and two counts of failure to comply with terms of probation.
