NO MORE FREE RADON KITS AT THE GREY BRUCE HEALTH UNIT
11/13/2017 5:56:45 AM

November is Radon Awareness Month.

Exposure to the gas is the second-leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking.

600 free Radon test kits were offered from the Grey Bruce Health Unit to residents.

Due to the overwhelming response, the kits are gone. No additional free kits will be made available through the health unit.

Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that may accumulate in a home. Radon is colourless and odourless; it can enter a home anywhere there is contact with the ground, such as basements. Testing is the only way to know if it is present.

Kits can be purchased for about $40-$60 on-line and from home building stores.

An estimated 20% of lung cancer deaths in Grey Bruce are due to radon.
