KINCARDINE TAXES BUMPED UP AFTER ABORTED SALE

At Kincardine Council this past Wednesday, elected representatives were treated to an auditor's report concerning Municipal spending in 2016.

It turns out the costs for the failed arbitration concerning the aborted sale of Bruce Telecom to Eastlink bumped your taxes up half a million dollars in this year's assessment.

Treasurer Roxanna Baumann indicates Kincardine incurred a tidy price in legal bills trying to get Eastlink to come good on its commitments-- legal costs were about 1.5 million dollars.

The Treasurer says because these were costs no one foresaw, they weren't budgeted for.

Baumann says some of the expense was defrayed from existing reserves, and the rest was put on the shoulders of the taxpayer.

The Treasurer says this was a one-time expense and does not reflect of the integrity of the Municipal budget process.
